[He headed off down the hall, his current plan being to swipe some stuff that he could eat later, as he turned it was obvious he was carrying a small bag over one shoulder]
[he shrugs]
Yeah, a bit, but it's nice to have some comp'ny. How's the Revelry doin'?
[He is perfectly content to make small talk until Beau wants to tell him what's up that she's sought him out, he doesn't count her as a friend, more a friend of a friend, but they don't have any quarrel, and she didn't seem pissed, so he was curious.]
It's doing well. With the temperature orb keeping the floor nice and cool while the sun's baking everything, business is up. I keep selling out of your moonshine, if you ever feel like upping production.
[Beau grinned and shrugged.]
That ain't why I'm here though. I've just been chewing on a puzzle for a while. And I think looking at it from a different angle will help.
Just cause he's smarter than shit doesn't mean he had the perspective I need. Wizards - you know? Besides, I don't want to put him in an uncomfortable position.
[Beau had thought about gong to Caleb and bouncing things of him, but this was going to be faster and not cause the wizard undo anxiety.]
You know, I told Glinda this was a rude thing to do a couple weeks back, but today I told myself since when does being rude ever stop me? So, Corbin, what are you?
[Corbin has never been good at lying, or at not wearing his heart on his sleeve. So he just sort of... stops for a second, his face quickly cycling through surprise and then annoyance and then curiosity before looping back around to annoyed-but-trying-to-hide-it]
What makes you think I'm somethin other'n a normal person?
[That Beau had definitely been on track was clear as day on Corbin's face.]
Because someone who really doesn't have the capacity to lie indicated you weren't. Besides, you've ended up in high places someone with your build really can't get to.
[She held a hand up, her thoughtful demeanor not changing.] I don't care that you either aren't human or have magic or some shit. But you are dating my family and I just want to know what the deal is.
[And then use that information to work on her real puzzle.]
[Corbin sighs, his eyes darting back and forth down the hall to check that no one was around. It wasn't like anyone seemed to care overmuch, but it was an old habit]
Yeah, well maybe I'm just good at climbin.
[But then he sighs, it's a weak excuse and he knows it.]
Where I'm from we call it Crowkin. I c'n turn into a crow, or somethin' between the two. Ain't some kinda curse, ain't got nothin to do with the moon, I always been like this.
[he gives her a look]
Is that all you wanted to know? Cuz that ain't much of a puzzle.
[Corbin doesn't want to admit he doesn't know what lycanthropic bipedal means, but he can... sort of guess? He shrugs.]
I get like, bout seven feet tall with wings and a beak and these big talons on my feet. I c'n show you some time just... not inside. I'd prob'ly slice holes in the carpet.
[Yup, that would be a lycanthropic bipedal form. It sounded metal as fuck, too.]
Sometime that'd be cool to see, but only if you want to. I don't really mean to make you more uncomfortable than necessary. And since you said there's no curse, I'm not gonna concern myself with Caleb catching the were-s. We've got lycanthropes in Exandria, though almost all of them can transmit it with a bite. There's a noble family near my hometown that are born werewolves, so it's not always a disease back home.
[She shrugged a bit; she'd need to actually look the Lorelei family up in the Archive to learn more than what anyone in the Truscan Vale knew.]
I'm trying to figure out why certain questions I ask aren't being answered. Don't worry yourself about it. It's like having a jigsaw puzzle in front of you with only a handful of the outside pieces. Kinda hard to put together.
I don't mind really, I don't get much use outta it, it's a lot handier bein able to turn into a crow. Just lemme know, you can look an poke an prod all you want.
[He shakes his head]
I ain't sure where that shit got started back home, all the kin I ever heard of are born like that. Prob'ly some old witch that got angry at someone. Or someone bein an idjit.
I will definitely take you up on that sometime. [Now that was an offer Corbin may come to regret. Beau was such a nerd underneath the gruff rough exterior.]
You know, I find most things can be traced back to someone being a fucking idiot.
[Beau patted Corbin on the back as they reached the dining hall.] Thanks, Corbin. I'll stop bothering you now since we're at the food, but I appreciate it. And I'm glad I don't got anything to worry about.
[Corbin nods, but he gets a sinking feeling, vaguely similar to the one he'd gotten when he had told Jester that sure, he'd be happy to model for her sometime.]
[He did follow Beau into the dining room a little ways]
Happy to help, tell Caleb I said hi, alright?
[He smiled at her, heading off to grab some of the fruit and sturdier pastries that he could tuck in a bag before heading out to do some gardening before it got too hot.]

Hey Beau, what's up?
Damn autocorrect
[She nodded for Corbin to lead the way, not sure if he was heading to the dining hall or out to his garden.]
Nothing bad. I know me being here is, uh, weird.
It's always fun
[He headed off down the hall, his current plan being to swipe some stuff that he could eat later, as he turned it was obvious he was carrying a small bag over one shoulder]

[He raises an eyebrow and shrugs again]
I ain't ever been much for puzzles, but I'll give it a shot. You'll prob'ly be better off askin' Caleb, he's a lot smarter than me.

And you aren't my puzzle; something else is. You were just a piece of that puzzle I decided to get a look at.

[And what did he have to do with any of it?]
